EDUCATION FOR SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT
Much of our work has been in Sustainable Living and Sustainable Development, and has been made under the direction of the Earth Charter International (ECI). However, more recently as the UK Commission has developed since the UK rejoined UNESCO in 2005, our efforts seem to be more involved here than in the ECI.
Our recent work in Nepal, especially the Chitwan Collaboration straddles both portfolios, although the more appropriate links lie now with our partners in UNESCO. The Chitwan Collaboration and its intentions are described elsewhere. Moreover, as FES is concerned with protecting and promoting the physical and natural environment, we feel we must tackle all of these related issues; especially as they directly or indirectly affect the impending ‘Mass Extinction of the Species’.
UNITED NATIONS DECADE FOR THE EDUCATION FOR SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT (UNDESD).
FES supports this initiative and has worked with it since 2005. Our main interests have been to raise public awareness of it, and its overall aims. Now working within ASPnet FES takes on a more formal educational role by taking it into schools. However, we still continue our public support of this in a number of ways, such as in the weekly radio programme the Andy Mydellton Wildlife Zone; journals and articles, the internet as well as in public presentations.
